WREY’S BUSH,

On Wednesday week, Mr Greer, one of our latest settlers, was joined in holy matrimony to Miss Agnes Johnston, youngest daughter of the late Mr William Johnston, who at one time represented the district in the Provincial Parliament, and was chairman of the Wallace County Council for several years. The -ceremony was performed at the house of the hride’s brother, by the Rev. A. Macdonald of Otautau, after which the'newly-wedded couple drove to Otautau en route for Dunedin. We have had a visit from the newly -appointed Wesleyan minister (Mr Newbold). He preached a capital sermon, and was at once pronounced a favourite. Last Saturday, about one in the morning, a severe shock of earthquake passed along this district, and was followed, half an hour later, by a slighter one. No damage was done, though household furniture was disturbed and clocks stopped. The rush on threshing mills is now almost over. A good quantity of grain has been put through, and the yield has turned out satisfactory, though hardly up to the average. Oats have now almost become of secondary importance compared with sheep, and as the latter pay well farmers are doing well. Anyhow, they don’t growl as in former times, and when a farmer does not growl, you may depend that things are in a prosperous way with him.
