The buildings for the World's Fair at Chicago are estimated to have taken 75,000,000 feet in construction, representing ten square miles of forest, and 20,000 tons of iron and steel. They are covered with a composition known as “ staff,” the work being equal to covering the wall of a four-storey building fifteen miles long. It is stated that some of the retail stores conducted on co-operative principles in England distribute an annual profit of 20 per cent, on their turn-over, while others only manage to pay their way.
