Mataura.
The machinery for the fx-eezing-Avorks has been . tested, everything going off without a hitch. At present the chambers are being cooled. It is the intention of the company to open the new works with a ball and supper. Meanwhile a stax-t has been made with freezing operations. The Town Board lately resolved to get Kana street asphalted from the bridge down to the school, and Mr Hendry, the contractox-, is now busy on the job. The fishing season closed on April 15th. Mr H. Cameron celebrated the occasion by drawing from the Mataura a speckled beauty .which turned the .scale at lOflb. The school loses an able teacher’in Miss Shanks, who has resigned her position, and terminates hex* connection with it at the end of the px*esent month.
