DIAMOND CUT DIAMOND.
The “ Trust” or “combine ” movement in the United States is not without its romance. Recently, when the merchants and the public discovered that they were at the mercy of a gigantic whisky syndicate, a central distillery, which had remained independent, went over by the agency of a “ smart ” negotiator to a so-called Anti-Whisky Trust Syndicate, which the merchants hoped would hold the all-devouring original combine in check. When the deed of purchase had been signed, the sellers were introduced to the purchaser, who, to their infinite disgust, however, turned out to be none but their enemy, Joe Greenhart, the President of the Whisky Trust. The only consolation the merchants have in the matter isthat the Trust paid more than double the value of the distillery, by which they will lose at present pricecs more than 50,000 dol.
