LAKE TE ANAU.

The weather has been excellent, but the tourist traffic lias not been very brisk. All who pass this way to Sutherland Falls return delighted with their experiences, and when the Government can sec their way to give better facilities for viewing the natural beauties of the district, we may look for a large influx of visitors annually.

The School Commissioners are at last going to have 500 acres of land cut up for settlement. I hope it will be surveyed in time to enable selectors to get their fencing done during the coming winter, Mr Snodgrass evidently believes in the future of this place. He is having ten new bedrooms erected in connection with his hotel, but detached from it, so that travellers who come this way need not fear lack of accommodation. I am sorry to say that his yacht sunk at her moorings some time ago, and it is doubtful if she can be raised.

The trout placed here three years ago arc thriving well in a little stream near the lake, so that ere long there should be good sport for anglers. Mr Murrell, of Lake Manapouri, is adding a number of rooms to his place, and Mr Dore hopes to have his steam launch ready ere long. He will have a trial trip in a few weeks.

Mr Geo. Bench, of the Key Hotel, Mararoa, is also going in for improvements. - Being close to the river, with good sport for rod and gun in the neighbourhood, his hostelry is a favourite stopping place for tourists. Mr Hay, Government surveyor, is busy subdividing blocks for settlement, and there are a good many ground parrots —I mean selectors—looking out for allotments.
