It is anticipated that there will bo a largo influx of n on sure seekers here next Monday, on the occasion of the athletic meeting promoted by the (lore Hibernian Society. T rbere is a very large and varied programme, and good entries for each event. ' The handicaps are out ami seem to have given satisfaction, and close and exciting finishes may be looked for. Lxeursiou trains run from Inveivargili and Lumsden. At the usual fortnightly sheep sale, held on Tuesday, 25,000 sheep came forward. There was a large attendance, but bidding was not brisk, and more than three-fourths were turned out unsold. Taking the sale all round, it was the worst, that lias been held in Gore lor a long time, and sheep were down fully 2s a head all round. Prices—Store, wethers, 11s ; crossbred ewes, 10s Od to 12s ; merino ewes, Is to 2s Gd; and crossbred lambs, 2s Gd to 7s Gd. The annual ram and ewe fair was held on "Wednesday, and a large number were yarded. The sale was a very slack one, and a great many were left unsold. Prices — llomney rams, from 10s Od to 12(Js; Leicester rams, from 21s to 03s; Lincoln rams, 21s to 03s; stud Leicester ewes, 12s Od to 30s; merino rams were unsaleable. The rabbit factory at Croydon is now in full swing, the dispute between the directors and the rabbiters having been settled, and the following scale of prices agreed upon —per pair, April, Lid ; May, sd; June, 5.Vd; am-. July, Gd. These prices are smaller than were current last season, but are better than the factorv directors first saw their way to offer.

Harvest is practically over in this district ; here and there a. fere patches of crop may still he seen. [Stacking is being vigorously carried on. In a few eases threshing is being done from stock. The hum of the threshing mill can be heard early and late. Tanners’ calculations regarding results are somewhat disappointing, and whilst samples are brighter than last season, there is a. marked falling off in the yield, throwers are, however, cheered by the prospect of improved prices, and already a few of the early ones have pocketed the proceeds of their labours. Good business. Close iry n forty W ood reapers and binders were sold this season by Messrs J’rewer and Trembath.

A new building has been erected opposite the railway station for Messrs and (Sutherland, t;v» young and energetic coach and carriage builders and painters, from Christchurch. The interior of their workshop is specially designed to facilitate the turning out of lirst-class work.
