SHANNON'S UNTIDY STREETS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Whatever our councillors may say to contrary, they are far from being progressive. They are evidently lacking also in civic pride for at the moment their roads are covered with loose stones making them, in the absence of footpaths, hard to walk on. The sides of the roads are covered with long rank grass, that not only makes walking on them impossible, but, looks rough and untidy. I have read from time to time in your paper of efforts being made on economic lines to have the main roads paved and also a proposal to buy a mower to cut grass, but evidently these proposals were defeated. I have met many ratepayers and the large majority want something done in the way of improvements. It is up to the councillors to get on or get out and give someone else a. chance I trust that an abler pen than mine will take this matter up and if necessary call a meeting of ratepayers to discuss it. I .am etc. i SOKE FEET.
