MR ALFRED SEIFERT ENTERTAINED.

RETIRES FROM MANAGING DIRECTORSHIP. FUNCTION AT MIKANUI. On Thursday evening, the staff and employees of Miranui, Limited, foregathered to make a presentation to Mr Alf. Seifert, who has resigned the position of managing-director of Miranui, Limited. - n Mr A. Gillespie, manager of tne mill, took the chair • and there were about 40 present, including Messrs F. H. Litchfield, C. Taylor and R. Priest from Palmerston North, and Messrs C« Spiers and J. Moir, from Shannon. Mr Gillespie referred to the excellent feeling that had existed between the managing-director, his staff and employees and stated that all connected with the mill regretted Ms give up the position. Mr, Seifert had had a lengthy experience in connection with the Makerua swamp. His first venture in flax had been at the a<*e of 22, when he started the Turakina mill on June 6, 1899. In 1902, he became a' director of the Makerua Estate Company and started Miranui on August 18th, 1907, the official opening taking place three months later. Mr Gillespie then asked Mr Seifert to accept a gold-mounted fountain pen and pencil, calendar and desk set, for himself and a crystal scent-bottle fov -Mrs Seifert from the staff, employees of the niill and friends in Shannon. Mr C. Spiers, president of the Flaxmillers > Association, Mr C. Hensman, the oldest employee of Miranui, Messrs Moir, Taylor,; Priest and Litchfield all expressed their regret at Mr Seifert's resignation and wished him the best of luck. An apology was received from Mr H. A/Seifert. .

• After the sole toast of the evening had been honoured, Mr Seifert thanked all for their presentation, especially with reference to Mrs Seifert, who had proved a toVer of strength to him in all his business undertakings. Regarding Miranui, Ltd., he considered that its success was due to his executive, who had pulled together and worked well with him. After tracing the his-tory-of the mill, Mr Seifert remarked that 340,000 tons of leaf, had been milled from the Makerua swamp by Miranui, Ltd.
