HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

SOUTHERN DISTRICT MATTERS. At the meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, at Levin on Saturday, the following business relating to the southern portion of the district was dealt with: — Closed Road Through Mr. R. W. Booth's Property. Messrs Harper, Atmore and Thomson, solicitors', Otaki, wrote on behalf of Mr. R. W. Booth, with reference to Waihoanga 4a closed road. They stated that in 1919 a strip of land through Waihoanga 4a, Otaki Gorge, was taken under the Public Works Act for a road, and a road near-by was closed. This road exchanged was now, registered in the Land Transfer Office, Wellington, as No. 1113. Although pursuant to an agreement with the adjoining owner, Mr. R. W. Booth, the Council ha 3 endorsed on the plans of the road exchange and consent to the issue of the title in the name of Mr. R. W. Booth, the title had not yet issued, for the reason that it was necessary for the Council to pass a resolution requesting the chief surveyor to issue the title. The chairman stated that the rbading operations in this connection were done about ten years ago; the old road, which led to the river, suffered a washout, and a new road had to be made, which was .taken up the side of the hill.

Cr. Catley stated that the access was by the Waihoanga bridge. It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, that, subject to verification of the agreement mentioned in the letter, application be made to the Chief Surveyor for registration in the name of Mr. R. W. Booth. Drain Through Mr. G. H. Clay's.

In reply to a letter from the Council, the Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote stating that the Fields Inspector would inspect the property of Mr. G. H. Clay, with respect to a drain of which the Council had complained, and when his report was. received the matter would be further considered. The communication was received. Grass-Cutting Rights.

Mr. C. Mora, Te Horo, wrote offering the sum of £1 for the right to cut cocksfoot on Te Horo Beach Road. The clerk stated that Mr. Mora had

called and said he would be prepared to give: 5s ;.-for the cutting rights on the length from the Main Road to Mr. Fielding's. Mr. J. L. Trembath, Beach Road, Te Horo, wrote asking if the Council would grant him, for the sum of £1 10s, the right to cut grass-seed on that road. Both applications were referred to Cr. Jensen and the engineer, with power to act. Petrol Pump. An application was received from Mr. W. C. Fiebig, storekeeper, Te Horo, for permission to instal an additional ~ benzine pump on the kerbside, the new pump to be alongside the existing one. The engineer reported that the pump had been installed with permission, but required altering. The applicu Lion was granted subject to the necessary alterations being x made. * Parking and Camping Area at Waimeba. After having considered the representations by Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., as to a parking and camping area at Waimeha Township, the Works Committee made the following recommendations: (1) That the parking of ears on the frontages of sections 6*4 > and 65 in the Waimcha Township be prohibited; (2) That Mr. lield's request for permission to use a portion of the road frontage of sections 64 and 65 be not granted.
