OPENING OF OHATJ SEASON. Although it happened late in comparison with the return of the tennis season generally, the opening of the Cffiau club’s courts, which was officially carried out on Saturday, was marked by much enthusiasm. Both the courts had had to receive attention, to make them thoroughly playable, but that object was properly accomplished, and while the work was under way a good many new members were secured, so that the club is now in a strong position. Although rain fell on Saturday morning, the weather cleared sufficiently for the gathering in the afternoon, and over fifty people were in attendance. The president, Mr J. Connor, in. a suitable speech, declared the club’s season officially open. He referred to the admirable’ manner in which the committee and helpers had strengthened the organisation and brought its facilities up to date, and stated that all were looking forward to a good tennis season.

A series of enjoyable games took place, and a delightful afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the club. Keen interest in the sport is being shown by the members, and, despite the delayed start, it is expected that quite a high standard of play will be produced this season.
