STORE BROKEN INTO.

LARGE QUANTITY OF LIQUOR

STOLEN.

ONE MAN ARRESTED

A daring burglary was perpetrated at the premsies of Messrs W. Bull . and Co., Ltd., during the week-end, two eases of liquor being removed, 'iue premises were secure when Mr Bull left them at half-past seven on Saturday evening, but when he called again at 10 o’clock yesterday morning he found that the two back doors had been interfered with, one being wide open and the other half-open. Tli *y had been forced by the intruders, who had also broken the catch off the door between the main store and the room where liquors are kept. On examining the contents of the latter department, Mr Bull found that two cases were missing; one of these was a full case of beer and the other was a case which had contained three dozen bottles of stout. It was estimated, also, .that about two dozen loose bottles of beer had been taken from the storeroom. Mr Bull communicated with the police, /and 'Constable Bagrie found the full case of beer in an old well on property between the yard and the railway line. The case which had contained the stout was discovered on land adjoining the railway line, opposite the (yar<j)|, the bottles having been taken away. It is assumed that the case of beer fell from the burglars’ hands when they were lifting it over a fence, and thus found its way into the well. The depth of the well is only about eight feet, and the ease was recovered intact, the contents being undamaged.

A man has been arrested in connection with the affair, but the inquiries not yet complete.
