POLICE PROTECTION.
Cr. Hyde complained that when Constable Blaikie had gone'on his leave, the town - had been left without proper police protection. An officer from Foxton had visited the town two or three days a week during the day time, which was unsatisfactory and he thought they should protest as if they let this sort of thing go by without objection they will soon have no police protection at all. —Councillors agreed with Cr. Hyde and it was decided to write to the Inspector of Police at Palmerston North protesting against an officer not being in the town, permanently when the resident officer is away on leave.
OVERHANGING HEDGES,
Cr. Anderson drew the Council’s attention to the number of overhanging hedges in the borough, particularly in Ballance Street. He said that in wet weather they were very objectionable to pedestrians using the footpaths and owners should be notified to cut them back. —The Town Clerk was instructed to notify the offending owners. RATES COLLECTED.
The Town Clerk reported that flie rates collected for the current year were £636 17s 4J, against £442 5s 2d for the same period last year. Nevertheless there was a debit at the Bank, this being brought about by the Council purchasing in bulk instead of spreading their purchases over a period.
