MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
LEVIN SITTING-. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Levin Avas held yesterday. before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M. ‘ CUTTING THE CORNER. Basil C. G. Collier, who did not appear, was charged that on October 28th
at Levin, when driving 'a motor lorry in Queen Street and 'intending to turn into Oxford Street, he failed to keep to the left of the centre line of the road. . Constable Bagrio stated that the defendant cut on to the right-hand corner and, after going a little way, pulled up. The constable approached him and defendant admitted the, offence. There Avas not a great deal of traffic about at the time, but it was one of the busiest corners in Levin. . A fine of £l, AA T ith costs 12s, Avas 1111-
CYCLISTS WITHOUT LIGHTS. There was no appearance fo Abraham Royal to ans Aver a charge of having ridden a cycle without a light on the Main Road at Weraroa at 8.15 p.m. on October 26th. Constable Bagne
stated that on the date named lie had a complaint that defendant had been riding his bicycle unlighted along the Main Road and had narroivly escaped a serious accident. When interviewed, defendant admitted that he had ridden without a light. Royal had sent in a message stating that, as he Avas engaged in shearing, he could not attend the Court; he had left 10s on account of his fine. Defendant was penalised in this amount, together with costs 12s. Thomas Monk, charged' Avith cycling a light 011 the night of November 14th in Levlin, pleaded guilty. The constable stated that defendant Avas a first offender. A 5s fine, Avitli costs 10s, AA r as imposed. A boy pleaded guilty, in the Children’s Court, to a similar offence, and Avas convicted and ordered to pay costs 10 s".
MAINTENANCE IN ARREARS,
Disobedience of a maintenance order was charged by Vera E. Cole against Fitzgerald Bell, the arrears to October 31st amounting to £6 2s 6d. The Clerk stated that since the summons Avas served defendant had paid £3, lcaA T ing a balance of £3 2s 6d. A sentence of 14 days’ hard labour was passed, the defendant to be released on payment of arrears. UNDEFENDED CIVIL CASES.
Judgment was entered for the plaintiffs, for the amounts named, in tha following' undefended civil cases: — W. 'Bull, Ltd., v. Choie Ford, £ls 19s Id, costs £1 7s; Abraham and Williams, Ltd., v. P. King, £9 Os 6d, costs £1 19s Gd; W. M. Clark, Ltd,, v. A. W. Tews, £5 6s 6d, costs £1 5s 6d; W. B. Macintosh and Son v. J. H. Andrew, £l2, costs £2 14s; same v. M. McGregor, £3 9s Bd, costs. £1 3s 6d; Otaki Mail v. C. Cooksley, £22 17s 2d, costs £4 Is 6d
JUDGMENT SUMMONSES
Orders were made on judgment summonses as follows: —A. Watson to pay Devine and Watkins £ll 7s 6d at the rate of 30s a month; in default ten ,days. W. Campbell to pay R. W. Curriii £6 16s 3d at the rate of £1 a month; in default seven days. E. Pratt to pay W. D. Duff £9 18s at the rate of £2 a month; in default ten days.
