FLOWERS FOR THE TABLE.
AWKWARD RECEPTACLES Vases which have a broad top and taper toward the base, style, often prove awkward receptacles for* flowers. This is especially so when you do not want to pack the" flowers in too tightly, and really they should never be crowded into, a vase, as their beauty is not shown off to advantage.
With a large bowd or u flat one the flowers can be put in a stand at the bottom, but, of course, this is impossible in a vase with a small or pointed base, but if an ordinary rubber band is slipped over the stalks after they have been levelled off with the scissors, they can be arranged artistically, and they will not sprawl all round the edge, with their stalks sticking up, in the middle.
This plan can also be,adopted successfully with the round, deep bowls if a flower stand is not available.
