VICECAPTAIN’S TEAMS This game was played on the Weraroa Reserve on Saturday and proved to be a very close and hard-fought contest, resulting in a win for the vicecaptain’s team by 19 runs. Bull and Roe opened the batting for the vice-captain’s team and carried the score to 40 before Roe was bowled by Young. With two men out for 76 and several good men to go, the batting side seemed assured of victory, but the game took on another {aspect when seven wickets were down for 116, eight for 118 and nine for 118. However, 11. Boulton, who had shown remarkable prowess in the field, now demonstrated that he was no less adept with the bat, as he speedily scored the requisite runs and then, with K. Adams as a partner, the score was carried to 137 before Boulton fell to the wiles of Ingram’s tricky bowling. Bull 65, E. Roe 13, J. Roe 13, France 12, and Boulton 12 were the double-figure batsmen. Bowling for the captain’s team, O’Connor took six for 48, Martin two for 1, Ingram one for 2, and Young one for 23.
