OTAKI MAORI RACING CLUB.

Spring Meeting Opens To-morrow.

Review of the fields.

The list of acceptors received for the opening day of the Otaki meeting are quite good and gives promise ox interesting sport. , Present indications are that the track will be in good order and given fine weather there is every reason to believe the club will have a successful meeting. TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS. Very suitable train arrangements have been made and the time-table is as follows: . On 20th and 21st November, special excursion tickets to Otaki, available for return until 22nd November, 1929, will be issued from Palmerston North, Ohau, and intermediate stations, • only by the trains leaving Palmerston North 6.58, 8.48 a.m. Trains (ordinary and special) run as follows: — - . - FOR OTAKI. —Shannon dep. /.44, 9.30 a.m., Otaki arrive 8.41, 10.23 a.m. For PALMERSTON NORTH.—Otaki dep. 5.25, 7.57 p.in. These trains stop where required for passengers.

In the following programme, the figures preceding the name of the runners indicates how each has been placed in the last three starts, since the opening of the 1929-30 season. The mark 1 is given for a first, 2 for second, 3 for third, 0 for unplaced and * not started during the period mentioned. Following is the programme: — HIS—KAPITI HURDLES; 1$ ■ ,miles.

Proceedings v/ill commence with the hurdles in which the recent winner Vivo is considered best by the handicapper. The Polydamon ntare scored a ver, easy win at Waverley in good time too, and that performance makes her look a distinct possibility for to-mor-row. Quillfire was among the field she accounted for. Democratic ran twice at the Waikato one-day Hunt' meeting for a third in the Ladies Bracelet, but at Taranaki in August he won the hurdles and then, later in the day, rthe Hunter’s Flat. He has a chance on that form. The failures of Fine Acre are hard to account for and he should do better. His stable companion Hard Gold has a. better record, but has a later engagement and wil: probably prefer that event. Peshwa has not accomplished anything to en thuse over but he has. shown improvement in recent outings and on his home course must be given a chance. Delude won very well at Dannevirk.; and his next start on Labour Day pro duced a win in the ’Jumpers' Flat. A new-comer to the game,. Sky,rider, is expected to run prominently. and Rash is a possibility. Form, however, is in favour of Delude Vivo.

I«oft_PUHI 1 «o ft _PUHI MAIDEN PLATE; 6 Furlongs.

Two over the safety number have fully paid up for the-Maiden Plate, nearly half of which have not raced this season. Corneroff who beat all but The Budget ,at Waipawa is said to be a likely looking sort and in hia only other stare this season finished a head .behind jHead Strang in the Novice Stakes on the same day. On those performances he should be favourite to-morrow. Dancing Star who paid a good price for second on .this course in June, 1928, has shown promise in recent outings and was beaten only by a better one at Carterton.' Dueilona’a consistent form at Riecarton last week makes Dancing Star’s second better than it at first appears; Goldlike. Kotahi Eka. and Streamer are the only

other runners with placed performances and on his own course Kotaki Eka will have to be considered. Two who have iun good races without getting a stake are Ben Hur and Limosin but preference must go to the latter for his fourth to Richfield, Royal Parade and Clarendon in the concluding race at Trentham. He will only have to repeat that performance to have a first-class chance in this race but as there is a likelihood of ai division he may assist to avoid it by preferring a later engagement. Bon Acre ran some good races last year without winning and can be expected tc do better this .season. A pair which are entitled to respect are , Corneroff Dancing Star.

1 15 —KAT'IHIKU HANDICAP; 7 Furlongs.

On the strength of her win at Carterton and three seconds in as many starts at Ricearton, Duellona will receh e a good deal of attention from speculators in this event. She has been a model of consistency and it is her due to win at least a few races. Clarendon is a much improved hack this season, and with 9.0 he will not be out of it. Limosa is a good one when in form and St. Melba is doing better. He finished fourth at Carterton. A flat race is not beyond Elysianor but he is not so well fancied as Royal Opera whose fourth at Trentham and third at Carterton entitles him to consideration. The only other runner with a recommendation is Auctioneer who won the Wilson Highweight , at. W on Labour Day, Royal Opera will be in the money if he beats Duellona Clarendon.

It is a very poor field due to contest the principal race and with none of the runners possessing a very recent win to recommend them, the event looks fairly open. Piuthair’s earlier performances are fairly good blit she is so inconsistent that she cannot be relied upon, especialy at this time of the year. Caught at her best on the day she would be a morail. Blimp has been a disappointment this season but on a course that will probably suit him and a week field, he has an ideal chance of making amend n In one race at Trentham he finished close behind the placed horses. Merry Mint’s form at Riecarton does not impress and the same • may be said of Black Mint, The veteran Rouex ran a good race at Masterton to finish third and if he can stage a come back, he will not likely get a better chance than to-mrorow. Thrift did not do any good at Waverley but can be expected to do better later in the season. Piuthair should win the race aud will pro'bably be favourite but there is a big chance that she will be beaten and the one v/Jio may account for her is

Blimp. 2.45— PAIIIKU HANDICAP; 6 furlongs.

There is a good deal of mixed form among the seventeen runners in this event, the- most recent winner being Acredity who scored at Carterton with Dermod in third position Marie a and 'The Budget were both winners on Labour Day, bu» the list performance was that f the latter who appeared to win with someihing to spare. He should have n > difficulty in running out the extra furlong. Keen was a winner at roverry Bay but it was not an outstanding performance. Warzone’s I recommendation i 3 a win in the maiden

First Money Dobbin.

division at Masterton but one who should hold him is the consistent Some Acre. In six starts this season this 4 year-old has been placed second on f.mr occasions and third twice, not once being out of the money. Rule Britannia, a Chief Ruhr three-year-old whit finished second at Masterton in his second start looks a likely winner shortly and Werata may be a dangerous runner on this course. Speculators, however, will probably leave it to Some Acre The Budget. 3.30. —WATTAWA HANDICAP; 6

.owl There has not been a very good response by owners in this event, only seven making tho final payment. The Hawk, who is top-weight, will be an interesting runner but he will probably be 'in need of the race, this being his first start this season. The favourite on the day will be First Money who has raced' well recently, having ran third at Masterton and third and second- at Trentham. In the latter race First Money finished \ length behind Cimabue in I.l<H end that performance is a first-class recommendation in this field. Dobbin has been consistent this season and has been placed in his .only three starts. He. reads as the hardest one for Firsit Money to beat. Royal Duke has Australian racing to support him while Veronese is improving and finished fourth at Carterton. Pass Book was speedy as a two-year-old and may surprise but she lias no recent form to recommend her. Shrewd can gallop a fast six but he would be preferred in a longer race. -For the winner the public will not go past

—TAUMANUKA HANDICAP; 1 mile and 55 yards.

There is very little form to support the runners in this field and-the best seems to be that of Chopin who has been placed third and second in three starts. Disrank has not done well so far, but he should improve and at the distance- he should be fairly hard to beat in a moderate field. High Society was a winner at the last fixture and coming to form; must be respected. Coming from a powerful stable, Metullus always carries a full share of support but has failed so far. He should do better though. Hard Gold’3 recommendations are in hurdle company, but ho has shown speed in gallops: It is not a good class field and on that account two who are likely to be in the money are Disrank Chopin. 5 # Q # —KEREIHI ROERA HANDICAP;

There is a big field for the concluding race which at its present stage looks very open. The top-weight, Goshawk, was given a gallop at Riccarton and a southern writer expresses the opinion that the Magpie gelding should win very shortly if appearances count. Back in his own class Royal Damon will be better suited and lie will be one of the dangerous ones to-morrow. Hunting Boy is the most recent winner in the field having scored at Carterton while Ramesis and Moutoa Treasury ran second and third in a different race at the same fixture. The former will have to be kept on the light side from now on. Maui always runs well when fresh and though his early season form was not good, he ha 3 a good record for this course. Those seeking a recovery dividend may select Ramesis Maui. •
