BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD.
MR RONALD LAW ELECTED CHAIRMAN.
AROTANGATA SPECIAL RATING 'DISTRICT.
The first meeting of Trustees of the Buckley Drainage Board since the elections was held in the Shannon Council Chambers yesterday morning. Present: Trustees R. Law, R. A. Speirs, J. W. Egginton, EL Easton an« J. G. Peers. Trustee R. Law was elected chairman.
On taking his seat Mr Law, in returning thanks, said he hoped that he Avould make a worthy chairman. In welcoming Trustee Peers as a member of the Board he said the latter was not new to drainage board work, as for many years in the past, he had been a member of the Board and he was pleased to see him back as he felt sure he would prove a valued member. Referring to the retiring chairman (Mr R. Waring TaylSr) who, had been a member, of the Board since its tion, during which time he had been chairman for about fifteen years, MiLaw said that, the long number of years Mr Taylor had been associated with the Board, he had rendered a lot of valuable work on behalf of the Buckley drainage district.- He felt sure other members were sorry to see him retire. Mr Taylor had put in a lot of time and work which the ratepayers did not see or know of, and on the whole had proved himself a splendid representative of the Buckley drainage district. On the chairman's motion, which was seconded by Trustee Egginton, the Clerk was directed to convey to Mr Taylor the Board's appreciation for his splendid work in the interests of the district as a whole.
Proposed by Trustee Speirs and seconded by Trustee Easton and carried, that the Chairman and Treasurer or one Trustee and Treasurer be appointed to operate upon the account kept with the Bank of New Zealand at Shannon.
The Clerk reported that the expenditure on the Tavistock road in the Koputaroa sub-division amounted to £4O 10s and he had made application to the Horowhenua County Council for their promised subsidy of £2O. The Koputaroa loan account was in credit at the Bank of New Zealand to the extent of £4l 13s 2d and Post Office £SOO. The general account was in debit £259 lis Bd, stated the Clerk. In connection with the loan of £2400 for flood protection jimprovement, it was proposed by the' Chairman and seconded by Trustee Spcirs that the Clerk be authorised to act in regard to raising the loan. The Chairman reported that there was a movement afoot to form a special rating area in the Aratangata district which included some of the Board's classified lands. On the motion of Trustee Easton, seconded by Trustee Peers it was resolved to protest to the Manawatu-Oroua River Board against any rateable lands in the Buckley drainage district being included in the special rating- district.
