OTAKI HOSPITAL.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. OTAKI AMBULANCE. The report of the executive committee of the Palmerston North Hospital Board was submitted as follows: — Arising out of the managing-secretary’s report it was decided to recommend ( that alternative estimates be prepared for the re-covering of the verandah roofs of the Prince of Wales and Princess Mary Wards in (a) copper and (b) galvanised iron. It was resolved to recommend that a tender of £55 be accepted for the erection of an incinerator. The committee inspected the paths and roadways on the north side of the main wards, and it was decided to recommend that these be repaired, if possible, with hot mix similar to what was previously obtained from the Borough Council for use in front of the office. In connection with the Xray department, the committee considered the report received from Dr. Myers, and, it was decided to recommend that the chairman, the medichl superintendent and the managing-sec-retary should proceed to Wellington and to Wanganui, and get all the information it is possible to get concerning the .X-ray departments in these centres and report back to the executive committee before the board comes to any further decision in the matter of the X-ray department. In connection with doctors’ accounts for indigent cases, it was decided that the committee recommend that certain accounts be paid, and that in each instance the doctors concerned be advised that any further accounts would be met only if treatment is sanctioned by the board’s relieving officer, or by a member of tbe Board. As regards the Otaki accounts, it was decided to advise the doctor j that the board ■ would not in future recognise any claims for indigent persons, who could be treated at the Otaki Hospital. In connection with a complaint made by Mr. J. Haining concerning an operation on his child, it was decided to advise Mr. Haining that the second admission to the hospital was not necessitated from any negligence on the part of any one connected with the institution, and that in the circumstances it was considered that ho should meet the account for j the child’s treatment. In connection ' with the damage alleged to have been 1 done to elotbes of Mr. Purser while he f was in the infectious disease ward, it . was decided that the managing-secre- J tary should interview Mr. Purser with I a view to ascertaining what he considered to be the cost of the damage and report further. It was decided to recommend that the board agree to the expenditure of an extra £IOO in connection with the ambulance for Otaki.
The managing-secretary submitted a suggested design for memorial tablets to be placed in the new wards. The committee approved of the design and decided that the matter of suitable wording be considered by Mrs. Abraham, the chairman, Mr. Monk and the managing-secretary, and a further report made. It was resolved that tenders be called for a suitable refrigerating plant.—The report was adopted.
