WASHING OLD CHINA

When washing old china it is a goo i plan to line the washing bowl with i

sort towel and only wash one article at a time. In this way the risk of break ago is eonsiderbly minimised, and scratches are avoided. Be careful not to vse the water too hot. Luke warm water will be foumi to be the best, and if a dash of-borax is added it will both soften the water and help to dislodge the dirt. Ordinary soaps and sodas should never be used for washing crockery that, is either very old or very fragile. They are generally far too strong. One of the best things to use is a little fuller’s earth applied,on a soft cloth, while a camel hair brush may be used in order to get into the corners. This removes all traces of dirt with very little trouble, aud will not injure the most delicate surface.

As each piece is washed it should be rinsed in clear water of the same temperature, dried, and then very gently polished with a chamois leather.
