AN ENJOYABLE CONCERT.

Probably one the most successful concerts (financially and musically) held in Shannon, took-place on’Tuesday night in the Parish Hal!, when a lengthy programme was-thoroughly enjoyed by a large audience. It was estimated there were well over 200 persons present, ,the hall being packed to -its utmost capacity. - . . Mr Clayton ably occupied the c-hair. Miss Aim carried out the duties of accompanist in a capable fashion, assisted by Mesdamcs Jcnes ar-d Cronquest. During the evening Mr and Mrs Parcell conducted the audience in community singing, an item which was much appreciated and heartily entered into by the audience. Solos were nicely rendered and deservedly encored, by Mesdames Cronquest, the Misses Aim and McDonald (Palmerston North), and Messrs Cronquest, Campbell and Cole. The Misses liiglev and Corlett gave a pleasing exhibition of Highland dancing. Mr Milner lendered several humorous monologues in entertaining style. Miss Jean Corlett recited pleasingly and Miss Hone Te Memo contributed: solos entertainingly. Miss Thompson in her cello solos received well deserved ovations.. A musical sketch entitled ‘ ‘ Caller Herrin” was well received by the audience and encored. Mesdames Cole, Cfonquost, Telfeil, Miss Butler and Messrs Morgan, Cole and Telfer taking part, and Mrs Parcell acting os acccfmpanist. An exhibition of club swinging by Mr Marmot made a pleasing variety in the programme. During the interval, the Rev. Mr Williamson thanked the artists, who had so kindly assisted, the Methodist Church management for the use of seats, and the public for their generous support. Mr Taylor spoke on behalf of the Anglican Church, and expressed his pleasure at being present.

It is understood the concert was a huge financial success. Expressions generally were voiced that a splendid concert had been staged. It was noticed the majority of the members - of the newly formed Shannon Dramatic Society were present.
