CRICKET IN HOROWHENUA.
REPOETS DISCLOSE A SATISFACTORY SEASON. ANNUAL .MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Cricket Association was _heiaat Otaki on Wednesday evening. Delegates were present as follows: Weraroa, Messrs G. C. France (president) and C. Bennett;. Levin, Messrs J. u Moodie and W. 11. Walker; Otaki, Messrs F. S. Simcox and S. J. Sievers; Paraparaumu, Messrs C. B. 'Reeves and H. Weggery; also Mr G: Blake Chonsecretary and treasurer). _■ REPORT ON THE SEASON. The President’s report, which was adopted, was as follows: “Club Competition. —We had a very even Club competition, which eventually resulted in a win for the Otaki OluD, with Weraroa Club runners-up two points behind. Special .merit attaches to the Paraparaumu Club, which fought doggedly throughout the season, , although they gained no championship points. ' ■ “Representative Games. —Our representatives played eight games-aiid acquitted themselves well, winning four and losing the remainder. Matches were played and resulted as follows:
Versus— . . , Wellington, at Levin, won by 64 rung. = - ■ Manawatu, at Weraroa, won by H runs. Rangitikei; at Mai ton, lost by 67 runs. Wellington, at Wellington, won by 106 runs. Manawatu, at Palmerston North, lost by 17 runs. Feilding, at Levin, lost by 14 runs. Wellington Juniors, at Weraroa, won , by 10 runs. ; Wellington Juniors, at Weraroa, lost by 54 runs. “One of our players, Mr H. Baumber, was chosen (to play in 'Hawke Cup matches, and further enhanced his reputation as a first-class cricketer. “It is hoped that the coming season -will be at least as successful as the one that has just passed. ” FINANCIAL POSITION. The report of . the secretary and treasurer and the adoption of accounts were taken concurrently. The accounts Showed a credit' balance of £7 6s 7d, as compared with a credit of £lO 19s 10d; at the beginning of the season. ."Tlhe-.net receipts for the year amounted to, £5 19s 3d, of which £5 os came fropi affiliation fees of five clubs. The comment was made in the report, that as the Association had had new rule-books printed, and had quite. a number of representative fixtures, with consequent outlay on match bells, etc., it had done very well indeed. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Officers for the ensuing year .were elected aa follows:—Patron, Mr F. S. Simcox ! (re-elected) ; president, Mr G. C. Franee (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs C. Blenkhorn, C. Atmore, J. Dunn, F. Knight, and W. 11. Field: secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Blake; management committee, Messrs S. Sievers, G„ Franee, and G. Blake. The matter of appointing school delegates was left in • the hands of the management committee. HOROWHENUA v. RANGITIKEI.
The Rangitikei Cricket Association wrote suggesting that the annual fix; turc,' Rangitikei v. Horowhenua, be played at Levin on January 11th, 1929. The date and venue as suggested were agreed to. - TOWN v. COUNTRY.
The Wellington Cricket Association forwarded a lengthy report on the Town v/ Country fixture, and it was received.
' MARYLEBONE TEAM’S VISIT. It was decided to write to the General Manager, New Zealand Railways, asking him. to favourably consider granting; excursion rates to travellers to Wellington on the. date of the match of the touring M.C.C. team against Wellington. The matter-of postponing club fixtures on that date was left’ in the hands of the Management Commit-t-C6a DONATION OF A MEDAL. The secretary reported that Mr Geo, Wise, of Levin,, had generously donated'a gold medal for any purpose the Association might think fit. It was unanimously decided to thank Mr Wise for his generous action. The matter of awarding the meldal was left in the hands of the management committee. GRASS WICKET. Weraroa delegates intimated that they intended to discontinue the use of their concrete wicket and play on matting over a prepared grass wicket. Their action was approved, but the Association found that it could not soe its way clear to .ask other clubs to follow suit. OPENING OF SEASON.
It was resolved tc. commence club competitions on Saturday, October 19th, the drawing of rounds and other matters being left in the hands of the management committee. The ;Aissociati,on, that tihe next annual meeting be held at Levin,. ' The proceedings closed with the customary vote of thanks to the chair.
