SOCIAL EVENING.

A most enjoyable evening was given by Mr and Mrs A. E. Burling at their residence, on the old Foxton road, on Thursday night. The drawing room had been tastefully decorated with green, red and gold streamers and spring flowers, which had a pretty effect. The evening was devoted to games and dancing, while items were contributed by Messrs L. Wynard, L. Grey and A. E. Burling. There were also novelty dame competitions, Mr and Mrs McKenzie winning the spot waltz, Miss B. Brown and C. Pentecost, the Monte Carlo, and Miss D. Jones and Mr 8,. Guy the Balloon -.lance. A ladies' whistling competition, "All by Yourself in the Moonlight," was Avon by Miss V. Quarrie and a peanut competition by Mr C. Blackbourne. At the conclusion of the evening, the event of their son, Lester's, birthday was announced, each guest receiving a piece of birthday cake.
