The -only three classic races for three-year-olds held this season have been won by the successful horseman, 11. Goldfinch, who is now at the head of the jockey’s ladder with L. G. Morris. - Goldfinch rode Eaglet in both the Wanganui and Avondale Guineas and made a special trip to ride Hunting Cry, the winner of the Hawke’s Bay .Guineas. He will pilot Eaglet again to-morrow in the Great Northern Guineas. .. ■ 1‘ Derby Day at Randwick. The Spring Carnival at Randwick will open to-morrow when a large number of- New Zealand horses will be facing. The Epsoni Handicap, for which Nightmarch and Paquito are favourites, will be decided on the opening day. Other races iff which New Zealand will be interested is the Breeders’ Plate, which field includes Mr G. Currie’s Pomp, and the A.J.C. Derby. The -latter rac6 has been won on three occasions by Mr G. D. Greemvood, whose representative on this occasion is Honour. It is reported that in a mile and a-quarter gallop last week, the chestnut colt finished very weakly and this will probably make the New Zealand bred Phar Lap a good favourite on the day. On his recent performances it is a position he is justly entitled to.
