I/ICE2S3IiD VICTUALLERS’ FINAL,
Otaki juniors again demonstrated championship form on Saturday when they beat Shannon on the Otaki ground to the tune of forty-five to nil. The game itself was not a good one from the spectators' point of view, but some very good individual play was seen. The wind, which blew across the ground, caused the ball to behave in an erratic manner and badly fooled both sides at times. For the first twenty minutes of the first half play . was very ragged. , Mishandling of the ball spoiled many movements. J. Me-
.Leavey, who played a rattling game throughout, worked the'blind side and sent the ball to H. Derham, who evaded a tackle and scored in the corner. The kick missed. Shannon attacked hotly from the kick off and despite the weak tackling of the locals, they failed
to penetrate. Otaki had now found their feet and "rattled" upa total of seventeen points before half time. Shannon made some very determined efforts to score but McLeavey marked when they were in a good position to
go over. J. Bevan then scored in a good position but the kick missed. Immediately after the kick off H. Edwards by good following up crossed for a good try. K. Metera converted. Flutey was next to increase the lead when he fielded a cross kick and crossed in the corner. Fafeita missed with the kick. One of the gems of the match followed when McLeavey cut in, passed to G. Merwood who outpaced the Shannon backs for a good try. The second 'half opened with Shannon looking dangerous, penning Otaki on their goal line. Play, however, was brought back by good forward play. Warman took a mark but. his kick at goal failed. Sinkinson put in a good run, transferred to B. Ryder, enabling
this played to cross at the corner. W. Johnson scored from the kick off and play had hardly recommenced when H. Edwards got over through good following up. A. procession of tries followed until the final whistle sounded. Metera, Fafeita (2), G. Flutey and Merwood crossed the line in quick succession. J. McDonald converted two of these tries. The final whistle sounded with the final score, Otaki 45, Shannon nil.
