SHANNON TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a poor attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Shannon Tennis Club held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr E. T. Moody) the meeting was presided over by Mr B. G-. Tayler. The chairman stated that the past season had been most successful both from a playing and financial point. The Club had commenced their past season with a credit balance of £24 19s 7d, and were in the fortunate position at the end of the season of having a credit balance of £56 Is lOd in hand to commence the coming season. He stated that there were still some subscriptions outstanding.. During the season five matches had been played with neighbouring clubs, resulting in two wins, two draws and one loss. A mixed doubles tournament was pilayed for a trophy kindly donated by Miss Sinclair and was keenly contested, being won by Mrs T., Moynihan and Mr C. It. Blaekbourn. In conclusion he wished the Club a successful and enjoyable season.
The following new members were elected: —Dr. and Mrs Millar, Mrs L. J. Mark,' Misses A. Aim and M. Smith, Messrj Telfer and R. Lister. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr E. T. Moody; vice-presidents, Mrs T. Moyinihan, Messrs J. Curran, jun., A. E. Hyde; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Goodwin;, club captain and sole selector, Mr J. Mabey; auditor, Mr B. J. Brann; general committee, Mesidames Cronquest, T. Moynihan, Dr. Millar, Miss D. Jones, Miss Sinclair, Mr J. Ewart, Mr B. G. Tayler. ■ It was decided that subscriptions be the same as last year, viz., gents 30s, ladies 20s, with a rebate of 5s if p|iid bv 31st December; junior members 7s 6 cl.
It was resolved that the opening day be Saturday. 19th October. 'To show their appreciation of the services rendered' by Mrs V. Pope in providing hot water during the past season, it was decided to make her a donation of two bags of coal. The question of top-dressing the courts was held over to enable the committee to obtain more details as to cost, etc. A quote received showed that it would cost £25 for each court to be top dressed and levelled. The chairman said that he would like the committee to try and arouse more interest in the competitions for the Mitchell medal and pins. Also that more ladder matches be played. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers was carried, the meeting terminating with a vote of thanks to the chair.
