FANS OF RARE BEAUTY AT THE THIRD COURT

There were more coloured fans, more shining .-jewels of deep, rich colours more clusters of orchids and exotictrails, of flowers at the third Court re cently hold .by her Majesty than evei before, we are told. There was one fan like a great fall , ing fountain of jade green feathers, and one (carried by a beautiful, fair-skin-ned woman) painted with a landscape of trees, with little cupids dancing on the lace panels in the lower half of the fan. The sunlight filtering through the fan, threw a golden light on the holder's face; she looked like a painting by Romney. Perhaps the most beautiful dress was that of an Indian girl; the sari, drawn softly over her curling hair, was of rose-purple tissue, shot with gold. She wore necklaces of silver, and a large flower of pinkish-silver tissue on her left shoulder. The emeralds sparkling among the diamonds worn by the Queen "picked up" the green bro-cade lining of the train of Indian Kingeob brocade which her Majesty wore with a gown of pale gold lame, the overdress of which was embroidered in diamante. . In the centre of her diamond crown were set the lesser stars of Africa.
