VEN. BEDE'S CHURCH.

WELCOME TO REV. MR YOUNG.

| The Parish Hall was taxed to its ut--1 most capacity on Friday evening, the ! occasion being a welcome to the Rev. I Mr Young to the plrochial district of ' Shannon. The gathering was a most representative one. Apologies were received from Revs. Abbott (Terrace End), Da vies (Levin), and Edmondson ' (Foxton). The function was arranged by the Ladies' Guild of Ven. Bcde's Church and a very enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with vocal, elocutionary and musical items contributed by Misses M. Ingley and Jose Thomson (pia-noforte duet), Mrs Cvonquest, Miss S. Quarrie, Miss A. Aim and Mr K. Henry, songs; Mr L. Milner, monologue; and a humorous item, "Three Old Maids of Lea," by Misses D. Jones, ,S. and V. Quarrie, M. Butler, and Mesdames Cole and Telfer, were all well received, the concert programme being most The accompanists were Mesdames CliffordJones and .Parcell, the dance music being provided by Mrs Butler and Mr A. Mason. During the proceedings Mr J. Hallam, in welcoming Rev. Mr Young to the' district, said that he was pleased to see such a large gathering and he thought having a welcome social was a good idea an not only members of the church-could meet the new vicar, but those outside the church. He expressed the hope that Rev. Mr Young's stay in Shannon would be a. pleasant one. Mr A. H. Morgan, the people's warden, also welcomed the new Vicar, assuring him that he would find the people of Shannon ar.d district most generous and hospitable. Referring to the Ladies' Guild he assured the guest they were a tower of strength in the interests of the Church and would never in any'way let him down. The helpers in the Sunday School could also be relied on to give him every assistance., - Rev. Walkn (Foxton), Rev. Williamson, the Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and. Messrs F. H. Taylor and P. Bass, also added words of welcome.

In returning thanks Rev. Mr Young said he had already found the people of Shannon and district friendly towards him and the gathering that evening had made him feel quite at home among them. He was especially pleased to see of other denominations present and he felt sure that they would always be able to work amicably together.
