POWER BOARD’S ENGINEER’S * REPORT. The following report was submitted to the Horowhenua • Power Board on Tuesday, by the Engineer (Mr J. A. Umith), as covering the period sinee the previous mlnthly meeting:— Twenty-nine new service lines have been erected, extra phases run oh five existing services, and one service line moved to a new position; 0.i6 poless have been fitted and erected, arid 1001 chains of wire run out, exclusive of service lines. ■ Extension of L.T. line was made on Pretoria Road, , yhannon, -Levin and Brown Street, Shannon, and on Convent Road, Otalti. ■ >

The reticulation of the O.D. Farm is well under way, and a; start has been made with the L.T. under E.H.T. south of Waikanae to supply new consumers. L.T. under E.H.T. was extended oh Buckley Road. Three-phase and N. were changed on Thompson Street], Shannon, to cope with the growth of loaa. in that area.

The service line to supply the Levin Abbatoirs has been put in, and power is now available. The transformers at Paekakariki have been changed for overhaul and the usual maintenance and attention to consumers and street lights attended to.

Ten meters have been tested and 13 repaired and re-tested. The usual maintenance to vehicles has been carried out, one 11,000-volt switch panel completed, and a quantity of line material made up. - Five tons of bare copper cable has come to hand, but it is going out fast on account of the exceptional demand for services and extensions, and it will be necessary to order a further quantity,' quotations for which are being’ received. A further quantity of,about 150 24ft poles are required, which can be supplied at the recent contract price. As several serious, and in some cases fatal accidents, have occurred lately (throng! |the use of portable lamps made up with metal holders which are likely to become “live,” I have issued a further warning to the one sent to all consumers last O’ctober. This is printed on the account forms so that every consumer must get a copy. The report was adopted and the Board accepted the tender of Messrs S. Brown, Ltd., Wellington, at £9Bl Os 3d, for six tons of 7.064 and three, tons of 7.080 bare copper cable. It was also decided to procure 150 24ft, and 50 28ft poles, in accordance with recent tender prices.
