SIR GRANVILLE RYRIE MAKES STRONG PROTEST
"OBLIGATIONS FULFILLED."
The Mandates Commission 's repon to the League Council says the Coin mission last year was disturbed by cor tain aspects of the administration oJ Now Guinea. Neither the Admini.stni tor's report of 1927-28 nor Sir Gran villo Eyrie's verbal explanations to the Commission allayed Apprehension's which il regarded as having been con finned from reliable information "Being still of the impression that the state of the territory was not, sat isfac'tory, the Commission at present preferred not to submit any conclusions to the Council until further information had been received from Australia."
Sir Granville Eyrie, in replying to the above criticisms, in a strong Note dated July 31, protested against the Commission accepting as confirmation of the unsatisfactory condition of the territory, questions in the House of Representatives in September, 1927, and at the Mission Conference held at Kabul in 1927, especially as far-reach-ing resolutions passed at the latter, affecting the moral, social and material welfare of natives, had been accepted almost completely by the New Guinea Advisory Council. Despite this nflte, the Commission said it did not propose to alter its decision. It would not submit its conelusions until such time as further information had been received, but it would bear in mind the additional information which Sir Grenville Syria's note bad furnished.
