PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.
BUSINESS OF THE QUARTER REVIEWED. . The quarterly meeting of the management committee of the Hoiowhenua County Patriotic Association was held on Wednesday. The President (Mr P. W. Goldsmith) was in the chair, and there wfc-re present: Messrs C. S. Keedwell, C. F. Atmore, J. M. Richards and T. Clifford, and Mrs T. F. Gibson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Tatton Fraser (Waikanae), -W. E; Kilsby, G. P. Catley, and H. J. MeLeavey. A welcome was extended by the chairman, to Mr Atmoie, who was elected to the committee at the last annual meeting of the Association. A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs, acknowledging receipt of the quarterly return. The National War Funds Council forwarded a report of its operations.^ Letters of appreciation were received from several returned soldiers, in respect. of assistance rendered to them by the Association. Remittances receivpd from returned men during the quarter, on aecount of loans, totalled £B9 11s Bd. Advice was received from some other patriotic organisations relative to certain peripatetic cases which were regarded as unsatisfactory. The committee granted authority for assistance to be carried on by way of grants in three or four eases of need. It was reported that several temporary grants had been made during the quarter. One application was received for a loan of £3OO, and another for a loan of £SOO, but both were declined as not being in the Association's line of business.
