MALE DRESS REFORM

LONDON ORGANISATION THE EXAMPLE OF WOMEN A Men’s Dress Reform party, the purpose of which is to discuss the means whereby men may l reform their clothes with as much profit to health and appearance as women, has been formed in London with the support of representatives of the Church, the stage, medicine, education and art. Dr. Jordan, the honorary secretary, said: “We aim at a more healthy and more sightly apparel. The ideal dress would be a lounge suit of good material with an open-necked shirt and a pair of shorts, such as one gees every day on holidays and Sundays.”

When he was asked -who would make a start on this dress reform, Dr. Jordan said that if men joined the party they would agree on a campaign. “Personally,” he said, “I have made a start except for strictly professional business •purposes. ”

“Our party will aim at persuading the tailors to make lighter wear' iq good material, and we have also got to persuade employers to 1 allow their staffs to wear this kind of clothing. It would lead to the quickening of mental activity.

“Also,- wc have got to persuade the proprietors of large hotels to ’induce tlicir staff to "wear more suitable clothing. I should be glad to abolish evening.dross. In its place I should like a nice cream jacket such as one sees in Sweden.

“One of the objections to men’s garments is that they are never washed or cleaned. The dirt is not noticeable. Perhaps one of the first things wc have to abolish is the collar stud.”
