"THE SHAKEDOWN."
Telling a stirring story of the oil fields and prize ring, ".The v Shakedown" (which will be screened at the Maorilaud Theatre on Wednesday) has for its. theme the age-old ruse of unscrupulous promoters of faked fights staged for the express intention of collecting bets. Sent into an oil town witli instructions to get a job, make friends and pave the way for his next faked fight with Battling Koff, a professional light heavyweight, James Murray meets the girl, played by Miss Kent, "and a nine-year-old street waif, played by Jack Hanlon, and, because of their love for him, decides to forsake the old racket for a life more honourable. There is nothing mawkish about the story. ■ ' n .i. ■ „ Owing to "The Talking Pictures" being shown on Thursday evening, there will be no screening at the Maoriland Theatre this Friday evening.
