PRINCESS ELIZABETH

GROWING/UP

At this time of the year, more than ■at any other time in the twelve months I alw'avs wish thai Princess Elizabeth could bo like Peter Pan! If only she hadn't to grow up and grow out of all tho.se delightful little childish characteristics which have helped to make her so much loved by one and all. writes a correspondent. But this week she celebrates her third birthday, so that she is re-ally getting quite a big baby! Gone is the delicious irillv bonnet, designed by the Queen herself ,and with' which the little lady set. a fashion before she was much more than- a year old. She is past the stage now when she can wear those pretty, white fur-trimmed coats to match which bo attracted the eyes of -passers-by when she went riding in her 'chariot' in the park. Now when she' pays a visit to the dressmaker's with her mother, it is to buy grown-up clothes. Velvet frocks in soft shades of pink and brown for morning wear, and tiny leather coats for use when travelling—and madame, if you please, is-already a much-travel-led personage. Her shoes, aye more sturdy, now, too, of course, for she do&s a mighty lot of walking, both indoors and around the garden behind No. 145 Piccadilly. But still, for afternoon and party wear, she "has the daintiest and flimsiest of frocks, and only just recently she set another fashion —for obviously all the crher famous children follow her Royal k-ad —-by wearing the sweetest of oldrose, coloured kid slippers, which had for decoration three looped bows set in a nc-w position slightly to one sude of the toe.
