SHANNON MANAWATU BRIDGE
HOROWHENUA COUNCIL DOES NOT FAVOUR AN OFFICIAL OPENING.
Advice was received by the Horn whenua County Council on Saturday from the Shannon Borough Council that it had communicated-with the Mana watu County Council asking for an official opening of the Shannon Manawalu bridge. The Town Clerk asked for this Council’s co-operation in the matter, and that it write to the Manawatu Council ’with a similar request. <( lf you , want, any publicity and s •tig fuss, ..have an official opening o; the bridge,’’Was the comment mad.: <ry the Chairnian (Mr Monk). “I am quite satisfied to leave it as it is.” Cr. Ryder: It .only means putting the ratepayers to expense. ' Cr.’ Whyte: Tliis comes from;.*' the lunmon -Borough. Outside .bodies are ,ot worrying about it. Cr. Ryder:. If any fuss was going •;i be made, it should have been before ■he bridge was used.
The Chairman: I don/t know that we ran do any good by getting Ministers up td drink champagne. Am I to interpret that yeu desire that no action he taken'-?'
The Council agreed to let the matter drop. ■;
