A meeting of those interested in furthering the Girl Guido movement in Shannon was held in fho Institute rooms on Thursday evening-. Mrs H. Clifford Jones pit-sided. There was a good -attendance of girls, bid; the number of mothers who at-tnick’d was very disappointing. In addressing those present Mrs Jones said the movement w r as a worldwide one, it having for ito object the training of young girls in a maimer that was liked by Cue girls themselves in making them good citizens of the future She said she was pleased to see such a good number of giris come forward to hand in . their names and hoped that they would be able to induce their friends to join.
•Misses K. Todd and D. Jones, who have been attending schools of instruction in' the work at Wellington and Nga Tawa (Marton), gave an outline of the instruction they received, both being veiv ■enthusiastic about the movement, They stated that the age limit for Guides is ffom 11 years to 15, this being considered, the most impressionable age, as the leaders were able to give them a start on the right lines. The movement is undenominational and not influenced by any particular sect.
At the conclusion of .'the ‘.reports fourteen names were handed in, twelve of whom will be trained for leaders, which course will take six to eight weeks, at the completion of which members will be enrolled for the troop.
