RUGBY FOOTBALL.
AUSTIN BANNER. PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOOTBALL. Saturday saw the commencement of the Austin banner competition between the primary schools at Shannon, Foxtot,, Levin, Olutu, Manakau and Otaki. Shannon school paid a visit to Foxton and was defeated by 8 points to nil. After the game, the teams were taken to the school, where morning tea provided by the girls, was handed round. (Mr Mapon, (headmaster of Foxton school, welcomed the visitors, to which Mr Swift replied, thanking him for his welcome and thq girls for tea. The Easton cup was on show. This fine trophy has been presented by Mr Laston to be played im conjunction with the Austin banner, and can be won outright, three times in succession or five times’ altogether.. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. The Manawatu Rugby District Council ’s annual seven-a-side tourney was held at Palmerston North vesterday under ideal 'conditions. Seventy-five teams entered comprising senior, junior, and third grades, and primary schools. The Shannon Club . were represented in the senior, junior, and third grades; each drawing a bye in the first round and each, suffering a defeat in the second round. The following are their results: — 1 Third grade—Old Boys A 18 v. Shannon 3. ' r . Juniors —Kia Toa A 13 v. Shannon nil. Seniors —Hutt 8 v. Shannon 3. .'The final winners were: —Seniors, Kia Toa; third grade, Oriental; primary schools, Terrace End.
