TESTING TYRES

Many motorists will no doubt be surprised to lc.irn of the car mileage coy-, ered during the process of testing tyres on Australian roads by the manufacturer. Something of a record has just been established by one company's flest of cars, which is reported to have covered a distance of 29,000 miles in the last six months, at an average speed of 25 m.p.h. on country road 3 ir. Victoria.

This car, which was' acquired for tyro testing purposes negotiated the remarkable distance of 10,000 miles during the first 14 days of the test. The car was loaded with bags of sand to the approximate weight of five adults, and was driven day and night by three shifts of drivers.
