FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD ACTIVITIES.
ANNUAL MEETING. POSSIBILITY OF TRADE BEING REVIVED. At the first meeting of the newlyelected Eoxton Harbour Board yesterday there were present Messrs J. Linklater, M.-P. (in the chair), J. A. Nash, M.P., M. Mortensen, R. Edwards (Government representative), R. Bryant, W. E. Barber, M. E. Perreau, A. Kellow and C. Blenkhorn.
The chairman referred to the death of the late Sir James Wilson and said his loss w'ould be greatly felt not only by the Manawaiu, but throughout the Dominion. He had represented the district for many years in Parliament. 1-Ie was a pioneer of the best type and he had been chiefly associated with the welfare of agriculture in New Zealand. The humanitarian, side of his life was well known to everyone. He had taken a keen interest in the Palmerston North- Hospital Board and had been mainly responsible for the establishment of the St. Helen’s Home in Palmerston North,. His life had been a great example, to all. Mr Nash said that- the late Sir .James had been a foundation member of the Harbour Board.
. A motion of sympathy was acorded the relatives of the late Sir Jamea Wilson, members standing, in silence. Mr Nash proposed that Mr Linklater be again elected chairman- for the ensuing year. Nothing had proved too much fo'r Mr Linklater in the past. Whenever wanted, he had journeyed -to Eoxton and had rendered valuable service \.j the ratepayers and people of the district.
Mr Barber seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Liaklaler in returning thanks said they had not had a very good year, but -things looked brighter for the future, as there was a possibility of two boats working the. port very shortly. He hoped that- at the next meeting the Board would be on a far better footing than at present. * Mr. Linklater also extended a welcome to the new members (Messrs Edwards, Blenkhorn, Bryant and Perreau. The ,ncw members all returned thariks.
The Marine Department wrote sta ting that the cabbage trees placed in the river for protective purposes by Mr. C. H. Speirs were now well secured. —Received.
It was decided to write to Captain Larsen inquiring if he was prepared to continue as pilot at Manawatu Heads.
