PROBATION GRANTED.

THEFT OF BICYCLE.

The theft of a bicycle valued at £3, the property of D. J. McClure, was admitted by a Tokomaru youth, Ralph Bennett, when he was charged with the offence in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday. “Do. you wish to be dealt with by the Magistrate?’’ accused was asked. “Yes, if he likes,’’ replied Bennett in electing to be dealt with summarily. Senior-Sergeant Whitehouso stated that accused had taken the machine at Shannon, and all the parts had been recovered, with the exception of the chain. Bennett’s employer was prepared to retain his services if he was given a chance. In the past, apparently, insufficient control had been exercised over the boy. Accused Avas admitted to probation for tAvelve months, and ordered to pay any damages incurred.
