CROQUET AT MANAKAU

THE SEASON CLOSES.

In most favourable weather last Saturday a very pleasant afternoon was spent by the members and friends of the Maiiakau Croquet Club, when the presentation of prizes and competitions .concluded their season. There was a splendid attendance and all took a keen interest in the various competitions arranged for the occasion. Tin ladies provided a very sumptuous afternoon tea, after which the various prizes were presented by the presilent, Mrs-I-lerrick, to the following:— ■ Handicap Singles. —Miss Nola Bryant (runner-up, Mrs Necs). Handicap Doubles. —Mesdamos Bryant and Cot ter.

• Baxter Brooches. —Mesdames Evans and Noes. Ladder. —Mrs Nees (runner.-up, Mrs Boulton). ■ Yankee Singles (0| to 111 basque players). —Mrs Cotter. . A special prize, donated bv Mrs A. V. Hornig and drawn for by members who ha<l not reached first or second place in the handicap singles, went to •Mrs Bowling.

Competitions on tile day were won by Mrs Webster (golf), Mrs Bramley (French), Mrs Olliver (mat), Mrs War- ■> nock (take off), Mesdames Higgot and •Morgan (hurry-scurry), Mrs Gillespie '(consolation). The Club trophies, which were particularly handsome, were donated by -Messrs Scott, Evans, senr., F. Brown, Evans, Junr. (2), Mesdames F. Nicholson (Levin), Ilornig, Herrick, Bowling, Nees and Miss. Houghton. The Club President (Mrs Heri'iCk) and secretary (Mrs Bryant) were each/ ■the recipient of a pretty posy of LowC2‘S. The Club Captain (Mrs Evans) and members, presented Mrs Bryant with a .beautiful English crystal bowl a- a token of appreciation for interest taken in affairs of the Club. Presentations were also made tc the greenkeeper (Mr Caldwell), and Mrs .Anderson, a willing helper. Regret was expressed that two members, Mrs Dalzell and Miss Bryant, were absent through illness, and another member, Miss Herrick, is on holiday in Australia.
