NEW CHURCH FOR OTAKI.

DISCUSSED BY PARISHIONERS. At the meeting of parishioners of All Staints' Church at Otaki the question of erecting a new church in place of the proposed parish hall was discussed, and it was agreed that on account of donations a new church could be built which would do credit to the town the present building could be used for social purposes. The Vicar, in speaking on the matter, considered a suitaible Church could be erected for about £IBOO or £I9OO, and submitted photographs of Church which had cost "this amount. He had no doubt that .he necessary amount could be raised, especially as the Ladies' Guild had offered to work for it. Mr. Moir asked t'or an expression of opinion from .the parishioners, adding that at present here was something like. £I2OO, including the late Mrs. Mcßeath's bequest of £SOO, in hand or in sight. Provision, he pointed out, could be made for enlarging the Church. The Vicar then i-ead a letter from Miss Pownall offering «i donation of £lO. (Applause). The Rev. Moir said that he felt sure other donations would be forthcoming, and expressed a desire to see the work under way* "Where there's a will there's a wav" he added. ,

All present signified their willingness to' have a new Church, and several spoke strongly in -favour of its erection. , r The Vicar suggested that the vestry act as a committee to go further into the matter. They could ascertain the cost both of brick and concrete, and then place facts and figures before the parishioners. Mr. 11. Freeman: strongly favoured the erection of a Church and offered £lO towards its erection. (Applause). The Vicar expressed his thanks to the donor's and also to the Ladies' Guild who had offered to help, and trusted that the work of erection would soon be under way.
