POPPY DAY RESULTS.
APPRECIABLE INCREASE ON LASTYEAR. The receipts from the sales of poppies in the Horowhenua, district, under the guidance of the Levin branch, ot the Returndd Soldiers’ Association, have exceeded this year the amounts so obtained during the effort of 1925.The total is estimated at £62 19s 6d, as compared with £53 9s last year, and is made up as follows: —
The cost cf the poppies and the incidental expenses amount to about £l7, leaving a balance of £45 19s 6d for the benefit of unemployed soldiers. The result is all the more satisfactory when it is taken into, consideration that since last year’s collection a branch of the R.S.A. has been formed at Paraparaumu, from which district the proceeds this year are sent.to the Wellington Association, so that, there was a deficiency to be made good by sales of poppies under the direction of the Levin branch, as represented by a return of £4 12s 6d from Paraparaumu last year.
