DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION.
Recently at Palmerston North, a large gathering <’of headmasters and secondary assistants met, and' formed a branch of the N.Z. . District High Schools Secondary Teachojrs’ Association, with headquarters at Palmer* ton.
One of the principal objects of this association is the advancement of the intrests of secondary education in District High Schools, and to that end tin following important motion were carried at the meeting.
(1) That agriculture, being probably the most useful and also the compulsory science in District High Schools, this branch would welcome further evidence of the Government’s willingness to assist suitable boys, without capital, to become small holders and to follow agricultural pursuits. (2) That as the efficiency of District High Schools (has undoubtedly been reduced by separation for grading puipo3es of primary and secondary averages, with consequent reduction :n Staff, that grouping of the averages in both departments be reinstated. (3) That provision should be mah at the Training Colleges for the training of sccondaiy assistants of District High Schools. (4) That this meeting urges that the staffing of Secondary Departments District High- Schools should be placed upon the same footing as correspond ing grades of secondary schools. Mr- F. A Mason, headmaster of the Foxton School, has the. honour of being made the first- president of the branch, with Mr R. J. Foss, of Levin, as vice-president, and Mr Doel secretary and treasurer.
