TANNIC ACID FOR BURNS. LONDON, Tuesday. British hospitals are enthusiastic "about the treatment of burns by tannic acid. The consensus of opinion is that it has not only revolutionised practice, but that it has greatly reduced the death-rate, says "The Times," pointing out that most burning deaths ar« «| caused by shock, due to absorption J through the skin of decomposition products, which the injury produces. Tannic acid prevents this absorption, and also produces a protective coating, which drops off when the burn has healed. "It appears that there is. no doubti" the article .says, "that this treatment, which is painless, safe, and simple, has robbed cases of severe turning of half their danger.
