MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.

ELECTION OF COMMITTEE. Twenty-six persons attended the annual meeting of householders held in the schoolroom last evening. Mr A. E. Ilvde presided. * ‘ CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. The chairman (Mr A* E. Hyde) on behalf of the retiring committee, gave a brief outline of the work during the year. Great efforts to a dental clinic had been made, he said, and, in conjunction with Tokomaru and Makerua they had been successful. Shannon’s share of ‘the money was obtained by the school concert, pictures, etc., and it was now hoped to have the buildiug erected and a nurse at work before the year was out. Several changes in the staff of the school had taken place during the year, including the headmaster, Mr White. This was unfortunate,-as the changes were not in the best interests cf the children, but it was unavoidable as far as the committee were concerned. The work of remodelling the school had been carried out and had cae.sod further inconvenience, both to staff and pupils, but now the work was completed it was certainly a great'improvement. A brief service had been held at the school on Anzae Day, an address given by Mr Hamilton, of Levin. July 18th had been observed as Arbor Day and a number of shrubs and trees planted. These were making good headway. The picnic was held at Plimmerton and proved a most enjoyable clay. Thanks to donations and good .weather it showed a credit balance of about £3. The incoming committee had a good amount of work to face in the coining year, and he hoped •that they would press on towards getting a septic tank and the grounds tar sealed. In conclusion he said he wished to pay a tribute to the committee who had* worked so well together and especially to the Secretary, Mr Hill, who had done yeoman service. ELECTION OF COMMITTEE.

The election of a committee of nine members then took place, resulting as follows: Messrs A. E. Hyde (chairman), A.'ll. Hill (secretary), L. Christie, P. Bass, W. Radford, A. H. Richards, D. Elhvood, C. Hansmann, L. F. Jones.

. vFor <the ninth place, Messrs G. Booker, J. Gray and L. F. Jones tied. It was' then decided to take a further ballot of the three candidates to decide the winner, which resulted in another tie between Messrs G. Booker and L. F. Jones. Again another ballot was taken and Mr IL. F. Jones won by two votes.

RETIRING COMMITTEE THANKED

Mr Clayton in moving a very hearty vote of thanks to the retiring committee congratulated them on good work they had done during their term and th:« harmonious manner in which they had worked together. A big factor in their ovork had been the securing of a dental, clinic for Shannon. For this they had gone strong and got it. He had recently read in the papers that there were -over 200 applications for dental clinics. So if they had not fought for it when they did _ they would probably have had to wait another three years. The motion wa.s carried by acclamation. SCHOOL FINANCE.

The balauee sheet 'showed the general fund to be £36 4s lid in credit and the special fund £36 8s 7d, the latter being really money for the septic tank.

Referring to the latter Mr Tippler said that seeing the matter of a septic tank had been shelved and that they had nearly sufficient money to apply to the Government for a subsidy; he moved that it be a recommendation that the new committee push forward as much as possible to instal the septic tank. -

The chairman stated he had been in touch by telephone with, the Board on this matter and was in receipt of a letter from the Board which he would hand over to the committee. He had made an offer of the-money in hand, them to find the remainer. There was no doubt, he stated, about the urgency of the tank. It had only been shelved because. of the urgency of securing a dental clinic. STAFF THANKED.

Mr Bass asked that the meeting express to the teaching staff a vote of thanks and appreciation of their work during the past year. This was carried by acclamation. The meeting then terminated.
