SPORTING NOTES.

Notes. Vcsperus is again in work after being treated to a spell. The winner of the Sydney Cup, Cruris, was picked up for 50 guineas. Full Sight is again in work at Win- ' gatui. Pink Note may not be raced again until next season. Moliison 's record now stands at 11 wins and a dead heat in 15 stalls for £2G,419. ■■ . ■ Kotorex was schooled over two flights of hurdles, at Wingatui last week and shaped well. Pink Coat has won £I2OO in stakes since he was purchased at 1000 guineas. 'Prince Fcrouz was disposed of • at Greymouth last week for the modest sum of £2. Euphonium is a regular attendant on the tracks at Hawera, and is putting plenty of clash into his pace work. TTnless the rale of Honour be effected in Sydney, it is probable he will be left in Australia to »h« re as a three-year-old in the interests of Mr G. I). Greenwood. Rapier has finished racing for this season and is on the easy list. He will not be spelled during the winter but will be kept in steady work, so that lie should be ready, without much trouble, for spring engagements. .

Three North Island horses—HotSpring (Chief Ruler —Tinkler), Rose' Glow and Catilex (Lord Quex —Catalini) arc to be sent over to Australia, and will poin Jet Black in Sydney. They are not likely to return io the Dominion. Both the classic events on the Hawke's Bay. Club's autumn programme last year produced fine contests, and this year's race for the J. D. Ormond Memorial Gold Cup to be held on Saturday isliould be one of the star items of the season. The entries show that there is a probability -of Reremoana, Gascony, Silver Paper, The Hawk, Toxeuma, Great Charter, Aussie, Gimabue, White'Fang, and others meeting at a mile. The race is not a straight-out weight-for-age event, but even at a weight-for-age with penalties, it should be a great draw. It was hoped that Limerick would be taken to the fixture to meet Aussie again,,but the Limond gelding's name is missing from the list. The presence of Limerick in the field would have been a great additional attraction, but in any case the race should be well worth seeing. "When Limerick ran second to Mollison in the All Aged Stakes, at the A.J.C. .meeting, lie brought his stake

earnings up to jvst about £38,000. This leaves him with £SIOO or £5200 to earn before' he equals Gloaming's record £43,100. However, if he keeps sound, and retains something like his form, he has a very reasonable chance. Limerick is in his fifth year, and Gloaming won nearly half hi* great total after he has passed that age/ Ai six years he won £5865, at ■seven, £4238, at eight £2205, and at nine £8179. Not all horses cyn be preserved as Gloaming was, but his figures serve (o show the reasonableness of Limerick's chance. Limerick is now second or third on the list of big stake winners in this part of. the world, probably third. Without- the exact figures, it is difficult to say'which. Accepting Limerick's figures as approximately £38,000, the list is as -follows:

Gloaming 43,100 Heroic 38,062 Limerick 38,000 Eurvthmic . 36,301 Windbag 35,949 David 31,410 Carbine 29,626 - Spearfelt ~. 28,173 Cctignc • 27,206 ■Poitrcl 20,920 V.hittu'.r ' ...-• 2(5^06
