DETECTIVES SHARP EYES.
SAW GUEST WEARING RING THAT DIDN'T FIT. LONDON, March 4. "The discovery of this felony was entirely due to the sharpness of Detective Prank Dorey, who, when at a dance in his private capacity, was observant enough to notice that a young woman wore a ring which did not fit her."
This commendation was made by Mr Hay Halkett ; the magistrate, at the Marylebone Police. Court on Saturday, when he imposed a fine of 40s oil Maud Grant, aged 35, a barmaid, of Lanark Villas, Maida Vale, for stealing by finding a ring belonging to Miss Dorothy Suart, of Warrington Crescent, Maida Vale. Miss Stuart lost the ring on December 31 last at a hairdressing saloon in Albemarle Street, Westminster. It was inscribed: "George to Dorothy, 33th October, 1927." " . Detoctive Frank Dorey said that he recently attended a police dance at the Kensington Town Hall, and noticed that Grant, one of the guests, wore a ring which was obviously too large for her finger. This aroused his suspicion, and he interviewed Grant at her home. It.was' then disclosed that she. had attended the hairdressing saloon in Albemarle Street, and when she was asked about the missing ring she produced it. She said that she found it on the floor and did not think that it was of any value.
