WHICH THE BEST CAR?
One point that will never be solved is which is tin- best car? As motoring conditions are not alike in all countries and as individual motorists’ requirements must necessarily be in striking contrast one with another the quest of the best car in the world is an impossible one, because there is no prospect of universal agreement as to the basis on which merit should be judged. Every individual would offer a selection of determining factors which on analysis would be found to differ in this detail or on that from sirnilai suggestions put forward by other folk There is also the time factor. Automobile engineering and the motor in dnstry have not attained a static stage. It is even fortunate for motorists that nobody can suggest when such a stage is likely to be reached. Therefore, even if we are to imagine universal opinion agreed as to what features constitute the best car, nevertheless vehicle improvement is so rapid that the machine which would score top marks 12, or even six, months ago would not necessarily be so distinguish ed to-day; and that which would be selected to-day would not come success fully through such a scrutiny six months hence.
• So we arrive at the conclusion that to-day there are a vast variety of “best cars in the world,” and that there will be in years to come. That means that the motorist with any particular combination of requirements is I'ortunate in knowing that he can get a machine which meets them alike as regards performance, accommodation, durability, and price. Assuredly that is a great thing for the industry to have achieved.
