GOOD FISHING.
FIVE HUNDRED POUND HAUL OFF KAPITI.
AN ENJOYABLE OUTING,
The claims of the Kapiti Island fishing grounds to be a sportsmen’s paradise are probably unrivalled on this coast, and gradually their attractions are becoming better known. Ample proof of the resources of the locality was obtained on Saturday by a Levin party, who landed, by the use of lines, about five hundred pounds weight of fish, of at least ten species, including kiilgfish, schnapper, trevalli, terakihi, blue and red cod, and kahawai. The visitors numbered seven —Messrs W. E., G. F., H. J. and A. T. Kilsby, who are brothers, Messrs Henry and Jack Kilsby, who are their cousins, and Mr E. C. Sawtell.
Leaving Ldvin at 7 a.m. the party arrived at Paraparaumu in time for a good dav*s sport, and were taken out by Mr Maurice Field by launch for a cruise that was full of interest from more points of view than that of deep-sea ( angling, a 3 the weather was beautifully fine and a journey was made right, round Kapiti Island. Owing to the calm atmosphere and the clearness of the water, it was possible to look down to a great depth, and the views obtained of many hundreds of fish moving about in their search for food were interesting to a degree. The lines were naturally very much in commission, and the best single catch was a kingfish of about 451bs. It was found that the best locality for speedy _ results was off the north-western points of. the Island.
After a most enjoyable enterprise, the party landed on Motungarara Island, off' the south-east end of Kapiti, for a cup of tea before leaving for Paraparaumu, which -was reached_ by moonlight. The impression is vividly retained by all who made the trip that any small 'group of holidaymakers desiring a really satisfactory day’s sport in suitable weather could not do better than hire a launch for a trip round Kapiti with the fishing-lines.
