PRESIDENT'S REPORT. The President in his report on tie past season's work stated that the 1928 season must be classed as a successful one from a playing, social and financial point of view. The most r.otewcrthy feature was the winning of the Nash Cup by the seniors, also the winning of the Northern Championship by the thirds. Both teams played bright Rugby, the coaches, Messrs Johnson and" Carter did fine work in training and keeping their teams together, and deserve the best thanks of the Club for their services.. The junior team did not do as well as expected, but put up-good games, only losing by small margins. A pleasing feature was the absence of rough play. Very few accidents took place, therefore very few claims Avere made on the insurance fund. The Club were fortunate in having a good workiag committee who atteiidejt_all meetings and took great interest .in" their work, and that their efforts were appreciated was evidenced from the fact that no complaints were received during the season. Messrs Richards and Mitchell, who looked after the club's interests j on the H.R. Union did good work and carried out all instructions satisfiac- , tory. The secretary, Mr G. Mitchell, | is worthy of special mention, having proved a great success in this position, helping in many ways to improve the finances of the club and carrying out his duties in a capable manner. Tlu following players are to be congratulated in gaining rep honours:—A grade: Satherley, Marsh, Roberts, Moodie. B grade: Hurst, Me Ken'zie, Walls, Robbie. Junior: I>. Gray. Thirds: M. Holdeu and Tippler. <in endeavour should be made to- have more' lights installed at the recreation ground to enable players to get better practice. The Club is grateful to all supporters who helped financially and otherwise, also to the Press for reports, and trusts the same support will be available during the coming season. —Adopted. It was decided that the members' subscription be the same as last yea'', viz., senior and junior ss, thirds 2/0 t plus insurance. '• A motion that the Club's colours bo red was defeated. The matter of re-classification or. junior and third grade players was left to the delegates to as they think fit at the meeting of the Union. The question of endeavouring to have more lights installed at the Domain to enable plavers to get in more practice was referred to by the chairman, who stated that the Borough Council had been anproached last season, but they asked "too large a contribution from the Club towards the cost. The grounds belonged to the public and he thought the Council should help. Mr Kohika thought the Horowhenua Umo:i should be asked to make a grant, not only to Shannon but to other cluos. towards the coat; of [practices. Mr, Richards said that Hui Mai had approached the Union with a similar request last season. It opened up a big question, as if the grant was made to one club, all were entitled to be treated alike.—lt was resolved that the delegates bring the question forward at the next meeting of the Union. Mr W. Moynihan said he would like it to be a recommendation to selectors not to select any unfinaneial members. He stressed the point that no one is a member of the Club unless they are financial. It was a big help to a Club to have all financial members. A motion was carried: "That no player be played in the Shannon Club unless he is financial." It was pointed out that last season the seniors had paid up well, about half th'j j juniors had paid, while nothing was j received from third players. It was decided to try and arrange for a match for the seniors and juniors and perhaps the thirds at Easter. Sev3ral new members were elected, the meeting then terminating.
